Experts question whether $499 gold Trump phone can be US-made

Trump’s New Gold Smartphone? Experts Say "Good Luck!"

The Trump family is back with something no one saw coming — a gold-coloured smartphone and a new mobile service, launching this August. But before you rush to pre-order, experts are already throwing shade.

Can It Really Be Made in America?

Trump’s team claims the phone will be "built in the USA", but tech insiders say: not a chance.

“They don’t even have a working prototype,” said Prof. Tinglong Dai from Johns Hopkins University. “You’d need a miracle.”

The U.S. simply doesn’t have the tech factories needed to build a full smartphone from scratch — not now, and not in time for August.

Eric Trump hinted on a podcast that the phones “eventually” will be made in the U.S. — so, maybe not yet?

⚠️ Reality Check:

Most likely, parts will come from other countries and be assembled in the U.S. — at best.

The Price: $499 Phone + $47.45/Month Plan

The phone costs $499, and the mobile plan is $47.45/month — a not-so-subtle nod to Trump being the 45th and maybe 47th president.

The Trump Organization says the service is for “hard-working Americans,” with discounted international calls for military families and U.S.-based customer support.

Nice pitch — but who’s really running it? They didn’t say.

Critics Are Not Impressed

Ethics watchdogs are sounding the alarm again. Meghan Faulkner from CREW (Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington) didn’t hold back:

“It’s unbelievable that the Trump family has created yet another way for the former president to personally profit while in office.”

The big question: Is this business... or just politics turned profit?

Where’s the Phone Coming From?

No one knows who’s building the phone or running the mobile service.

The Trump Organization didn’t respond to questions about:

  • Who’s their telecom partner?

  • Where’s the phone really made?

  • How does this not raise conflict-of-interest red flags?

Branding or Business?

This is nothing new for Trump. Long before politics, he made millions selling his name on hotels, golf resorts — and now phones.

In 2023 alone, Trump made over $600 million, including cash from Trump-branded bibles, sneakers, cologne, and even watches.

Now, he’s doubling down with a phone — and his fanbase is buying into the hype.

Mixed Reactions Online

Some Trump supporters can’t wait:

“Where do I line up to buy the new Trump phone?”

Others are roasting it:

“Does it come with ALL-CAPS texting only?”

“Is it waterproof, or just tear-proof when lawsuits hit?”
