"M23 Coalition Captures Mulema Amid Deadly Clashes in North Kivu!"
🔥 A NIGHT OF VIOLENCE! 🔥
In a dramatic turn of events, the AFC/M23 coalition forces have reportedly seized control of the locality of Mulema in Masisi Territory, North Kivu, following a fierce overnight assault by pro-government Wazalendo militias. The attack unfolded during the night of July 24 to 25, 2025, as Wazalendo launched a bold offensive on M23 positions in Luke and Katobotobo, aiming to reclaim contested zones from rebel control.
💔 A TRAGIC TOLL:
The fighting has left a devastating mark, with at least 11 fatalities confirmed, including eight civilians. A medical worker at the Luke health center reported, “We have confirmed 11 fatalities, among them eight civilians. Twenty-one others are wounded and are being treated locally, as it is currently impossible to transfer them to Kinigi or Masisi due to ongoing clashes.”
⚔️ M23 STRIKES BACK:
In a swift response, M23 forces pushed back against the Wazalendo units, extending their control to Mulema—a strategic area near Waloa Yungu in Walikale Territory. As of July 25, reports indicate that Wazalendo fighters are regrouping along the outskirts of Masisi Territory, near the Walikale border, preparing for what could be a protracted conflict.
🕊️ PEACE TALKS ON THE HORIZON:
This renewed fighting comes just as peace talks are set to commence in early August 2025 in Qatar. These negotiations aim to tackle the root causes of the ongoing conflict in eastern DRC and are based on a framework agreement signed by both the M23/AFC and the Congolese government on July 19.
🤝 A COMMITMENT TO PEACE:
The agreement includes a commitment from both sides to observe a permanent ceasefire and work toward a political resolution to the conflict. However, with violence erupting once again, the path to peace appears fraught with challenges.
🌍 A REGION IN TURMOIL:
As the situation in North Kivu continues to evolve, the international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution that can bring stability to a region long plagued by conflict. The stakes are high, and the lives of countless civilians hang in the balance as both sides prepare for what lies ahead.
