🇺🇸 Trump Dismisses Elon Musk's Third Party Threat: "A Train Wreck and a Fantasy"

Washington, D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has publicly ridiculed billionaire Elon Musk’s plan to launch a third political party, calling it “ridiculous” and warning it would only create “complete and total disruption and chaos.”

Trump’s remarks come amid a growing feud between the two high-profile figures, triggered by Musk’s vocal opposition to Trump’s newly passed One Big Beautiful Bill, a sweeping tax and spending package signed into law on Independence Day.

💬 Trump: "Elon Musk Has Gone Off the Rails"

In a Sunday night social media post, Trump wrote:

“I’m saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK over the past five weeks.”

He described Musk’s "America Party" announcement as a vanity project, claiming that third parties have never succeeded in the U.S. political system.

“The one thing third parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS,” Trump added.

🚨 Musk Pushes Back: "Give America Its Freedom"

On his own platform, X (formerly Twitter), Musk declared the formation of the America Party, positioning it as a bold alternative to the Republican-Democrat duopoly:

“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”

However, Musk's announcement had immediate financial repercussions, as Tesla stock plummeted on Monday, suffering its worst single-day loss since June 5.

📉 Political Experts Weigh In

Political analysts are skeptical of Musk’s third-party ambitions:

  • Prof. Christopher Galdieri (Saint Anselm College):

“If Musk funds challengers or independents, Republicans could lose ground in next year’s midterms.”

  • Clay Ramsay (University of Maryland):

“A new political party needs a real, unifying idea—this just looks like a reactionary stunt.”

  • Darrell West (Brookings Institution):

“There is an appetite for a third option, but Musk needs someone with political credibility to lead it.”

🗳️ Could the America Party Actually Work?

While third parties like Ross Perot’s Reform Party or Ralph Nader’s Green Party have stirred debate in the past, none have secured lasting national influence. Experts say that building a sustainable third party requires:

  • Grassroots support at the local level

  • A core ideological vision

  • A credible leadership figure other than Musk himself

Without that, the America Party may falter before it even fields a single candidate.
